Fiona Leahy Table

When Dior, Aerin Lauder or Gwyneth Paltrow’s wellness brand Goop are hosting a party, it’s Fiona Leahy who creates their unforgettable tablescapes. Her decadent styling – tumbling blooms, printed linens and her signature bespoke monogrammed napkins – have turned laying a dining table into a work of art. Leahy honed her craft after she planned her friend Dita von Teese’s wedding 14 years ago, and she includes Valentino and the Queen of Qatar on her client list. ‘I used to be a fashion stylist,’ she says, ‘and creating a table is the same as putting an outfit together. You layer colours, you edit it, you want contrast.’ It can take anything from a day to a year to pull an evening together, depending on how organised the client is (she thinks eight months is ideal for a wedding). Her top design tip? No matter what the occasion, go large on festoonery. ‘A canopy of light doesn’t have to be expensive, but it adds warmth, bringing out the twinkles in everything.’ Let's get inspired!
